How to budget when you're paid weekly

Most bills arrive monthly, but many pay packets arrive every week or two. That mismatch is why weekly-paid budgets often feel tight in one week and loose in the next.

1. List bills by due date

Write each monthly bill with its due date, then assign it to the pay day just before it.

2. Even out the big ones

Split large bills across several pay days and set the money aside in a separate pot until the due date.

3. Use sinking funds

Annual costs like car insurance or Christmas become small weekly amounts when divided by the weeks left.

4. Plan the extra pay day

Some months have five weekly pay days. Decide in advance where that extra one goes.

5. Review each quarter

Bills change. A short review every three months keeps the plan realistic.
